LGBTQ+ THERAPY

Taking the first step of starting therapy can feel overwhelming. We want to create a space that really feels like it’s yours. You can talk about whatever you want, even if it feels like other people would judge you for what you’re saying. You can open up about feelings that you’re worried about or even afraid to say out loud to anyone else for fear of criticism, mockery, hate, anything. You don’t have to have names for what you feel you’re struggling with. You don’t have to think of a specific plan for your healing. If you’re feeling uneasy or lost, this is the place that you can bring those feelings. You can just come and talk, and we can work on organizing it together.

We are an LGBTQ+ affirming practice. Our therapists are well-versed in relevant topics. We stay up to date on important news within the community and also welcome discussion on your individual experiences within society. We offer space to explore any feelings about your identity, and believe everyone should have that space. You can come in to help solidify your ideas or even question things. You certainly don’t have to have names for everything you feel about your identity. We recognize and affirm fluidity and want to encourage an environment of learning about you rather than feeling like you need to have a full understanding of your identity immediately.

Society still has a long way to go in terms of acceptance. There are a lot of important topics brought up in politics and the news today and it’s our goal to be aware of all the aspects and challenges of the various movements including LGBTQ+, feminist theories, gender studies, and more. Having that knowledge base of what is happening currently in our society, we can focus on your personal experiences with regards to what’s impacting you now, along with your past experiences, and allow space for you to explore your individual beliefs as they may differ from others’. You don’t have to worry about judgments in this space. We want you to feel comfortable to talk about whatever is important to you. This includes the full range of emotions–excitement, joy, sadness, frustration, anger, anything. In order to discuss how you feel, we can’t center around only positive thoughts because it’s not the full picture. We support you talking about those deep emotions that you feel you can’t bring anywhere else.

It’s important to note that while you may come in wanting to explore your identity, we may find ourselves talking about different topics at times. Letting the conversation flow to wherever it goes gives a more natural representation of your thoughts and what makes you up. Learning about yourself can happen though talking about anything, and you don’t have to limit yourself to one topic. As you start this journey, you’ll get a feel for what’s comfortable for you. You are in charge of your life, and we will be there to support you through it. Please feel free to contact us for an initial appointment or complimentary consultation below
